Fleeing from their biggest heist gone wrong, Anna and Ruth, outlaws and lovers, must find solace in each other when unable to outrun their grim consequences: Ruth's fatal wound and the authorities determined to hang them.
Originally from Montréal, Quebec, and now residing in Toronto, Ontario, Grace Gordon is a queer, multi-hyphenate artist passionate about telling stories that explore the complexities and contradictions of human nature. She is a recent graduate of George Brown College's Video Design and Production program, where she first developed Copper Coins. Her work fearlessly seeks out the humour in dark situations and uncovers moments of tragedy in lightheartedness. Her early career as an actor for stage and screen informs her work as a director and writer.
Copper Coins was born from a desire to see complex, queer, female characters in a period genre where they have typically not been at the forefront. […] My talented team, comprised almost exclusively of 2SLGBTQIA+ creatives, and I set out to create the images we wanted to see in the world. […] While Copper Coins is a film about struggling through grief, it is fundamentally a love story between two people who have become each other's only companions.
