In the process of writing Óčko, I wanted to develop a story that explores emotional dependency and the grief that accompanies the end of a toxic romantic relationship. Through Tomáš’s journey, I wanted to highlight the contradiction of remaining deeply attached to someone whom one is nevertheless trying to detach from. Filmed in Prague, the project is rooted in the Czech landscape by using poppies as a metaphor for the beauty and pain of this kind of relationship.
