Synopsis

Set in a fractured world, Kimotiwin: The Act of Stealing follows Tiska and Nisa, a queer couple finding moments of joy amid ecological devastation. When Tiska discovers one flower remaining on the hill where their love began, she sets out to protect it from destruction.

Filmmaker Bio

Keara Lightning (she/her) and Caeleigh Lightning (she/they) are Nehiyaw sisters behind Studio Ekosi, an indie studio crafting immersive storytelling experiences. They create moments of joy and worlds that spark wonder, blending fantasy solarpunk aesthetics with Indigenous perspectives. Keara, a writer and game designer, leads narrative development, while Caeleigh, a visual artist, brings their shared vision to life through her art and creative direction. Their animated short, Kimotiwin, streams on HBO Max and Crave. Studio Ekosi's work celebrates resilience, interconnectedness, and the magic of reimagining futures.
