Helena, deeply immersed in her book, imagines a grandiose love story.
Writer and filmmaker, Jérémy Audet began studying cinema at university in 2023. His artistic approach explores how visual storytelling can express characters’ inner worlds through locations, sets and colors. After his first year of studies, he directed his first short film, Souvenirs d’un soleil disparu. Fictophilia is his second short film, made as part of his university studies.
With Fictophilia, I wanted to maintain a strong visual style from beginning to end. By stylizing both fiction and reality, I wanted to treat reality as an extension of the world Helena imagines. She falls in love with a fictional character, but also learns to love beyond the pages of her book. I wanted the magic of Helena’s imagination to extend into reality, revealing the film’s message: love can be found wherever we choose to look.
