In a Moroccan riad, El Mehdi transforms a mint tea ceremony into a ritual of queer self-reclamation. Moving between Arabic, French, and English, _El Film_ explores identity, belonging, masculinity, the sacred, and the freedom to exist beyond restrictive binaries.
El Mehdi is a Moroccan-Canadian multidisciplinary artist and director working across cinema, music, identity and the sacred. Rooted in his North African heritage and queer diasporic experience, his work blends art-pop aesthetics, symbolism and cinematic precision. Working in English, French and Arabic, he creates audiovisual worlds that challenge cultural binaries and reclaim Arab and Amazigh aesthetics. His self-directed projects include ENCORE, created with the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech. With El Film, he further explores transformation, masculinity, belonging and queer visibility.
If every part of us is not welcomed somewhere, then we must create that somewhere ourselves.
