When their housemate moves out, Tendai faces accessibility barriers alone for the first time. Haunted by stereotypes about how a wheelchair user should be, they eventually decide to take action and free themselves from the narrative imposed upon them.
Theo Angel is an experienced actor turned writer and director. After more than seven years acting in independent film and productions for HBO, Sky, BBC and Netflix, they moved into directing. Disabled, queer and mixed-race, Angel is motivated by the industry's slow progress in representing people like them both on and off screen. But Still, We Move is their first narrative film as director. They are a part of Radical Film School and adhere to their philosophy regarding decolonising film from western hierarchy structures.
The core of But Still, We Move is humanity and humanisation. This gentle drama refuses the classic conventions of cinema and denies exploitation of marginalised trauma for the narrative. It follows a Black and transgender wheelchair user who saves themselves from systemic discrimination without erasing the effect that has on the individual, and the vital need for marginalised communities to come together. […] It is my fundamental belief that people do their best work when they are cared for.
