Haunted by violence and prejudice, Nereu dials 145 and slips anonymously into the charged intimacy of Brazil's notorious hotline. Between desire and dread, pleasure and pain, his experience gradually dissolves the fragile boundaries separating reality, fantasy and dream.
Diego Morais Vieira Franco holds a master's degree in Communication Technologies and Aesthetics from UFRJ, where he researched documentary practices and contemporary audiovisual culture, as well as a bachelor's degree in Art History focused on 1960s American avant-garde cinema. He also worked for four years as curator and executive producer of Mostra do Filme Livre, a long-running Brazilian showcase dedicated to independent and experimental film.
This film is born from memories and anxieties that shape me as a gay man in a country that still leads the world in violence against LGBTQIA+ bodies. […] By portraying a single day in the life of a young gay man in the 1990s, I sought to reveal the layers of discrimination that mark our everyday experience: the devouring gazes, the suffocating religion, the fear that pushes us to live our desire in dangerous spaces. […] This film is my attempt to give shape to that abyss — both intimate and collective — where fear and desire coexist.
